"Righteous Among the Nations" Award in Kryoneri

The Community of Kryoneri Corinthia and the Embassy of Israel in Greece co-organized the Yad Vashem Award Ceremony where Mr. Nikolaos Athanasoulis and Mr. Athanasios Dimopoulos received the prestigious award "Righteous Among the Nations" for the rescue of the Jewish family of Abraham Kamchi during the Holocaust. The awards of Father Athanassouli's family was received by the grandaughters Magdalene and Renatina Athanassouli while the award of Mr. Athanasios Dimopoulos' family was received by his sons, George and Dimitris.

Mrs. Rivkah Kamchi, survivor and daughter of Abraham and her relatives, traveled especially from Israel to Kryoneri to attend the ceremony, while many members of Athanasoulis and Dimopoulos families also attended, including the Governor Pelopponisou, Mr. Petros Tatoulis, the Deputy Governor Mr. Pelopidas Kalliris, Bishop Anthimos, representative of the Metropolitan of Corinthia, Mr. Dionysiou, the Ambassador of Israel, Ms. Irit Ben -Abba with a delegation from the Embassy of Israel, ​​the Deputy of the German Embassy Mr. Mark Bogdahn, the Mayor Sikyonion, Mr. Spyros Stamatopoulos and the President of Krioneri Community, Mr. Kostas Raftopoulos.

Many citizens of the village, youngsters and older ones, who embraced the visitors from Israel and the delegation of the Israeli Embassy, ​​demonstrating perfectly the warm hospitality of the region. In the central square of Kryoneri, the Greek and Israeli flags symbolized the friendship between the two countries. Prior to the ceremony, an Israeli Air Force aircraft held an honorary flight over the village.
