"Paths of Memory" volunteering project

From 2nd of May till 1st of June 2019 a special group EVS project supported by Erasmus + programme was hosted by Filoxenia in Kryoneri Korinthias.

Fourteen young people from Germany, Israel, Finland, Italy, Spain, Slovakia, Luxembourg came to take part in the project “Paths of memory”.

During this Group EVS project, young people helped out on the following sectors:

  •  cleaning up the environmental footpaths guiding to the Karamanos cave;
  •  building wooden equipment for the footpath (banks, stairs, etc.),
  •  developing memory points/ panels, constructing signs in environmental footpath;
  •  developing memory points/mosaic objects in this environmental footpath;
  •  reusing recycling material for wooden constructions;
  •  video documentation

The project's programme included also a complementary activity (Study visit) aiming at strengthening the impact of the project. During this study visit young volunteers visited the Execution's Memorial 1943, the Holocaust Museum and got the information about the Massacre of Kalavryta and the history of this area during the World War II.

During the volunteering project, some of the young volunteers from Slovakia, Austria, Finland had also the opportunity to support local Kindergarten in Corinth and help them with painting, to make a nice ground in their garden with a game for children to play.

The second round of volunteering project started on 1st of September 2019. Filoxenia was very happy to host for the first time a volunteering project under the European Solidarity Corps program, from Austria.

Young people from Slovakia, Spain, Israel, Luxembourg, Finland and Austria helped cleaning up the environmental footpaths; building wooden equipment for the footpath (banks, stairs, etc.), developing memory points/ signs in environmental footpath; reusing recycling material for wooden constructions and more.
