The main theme of the project is tolerance, xenophobia and differences between people and cultures. We are going to create an international theatre group. The main activity of the group will be to create and perform a theatre show, based on the mime-drama script of Geo Milev - one of the classics of the Bulgarian literature - based on traditional Bulgarian legend. It will be evening, open-air, non-verbal theatre performance, mixing various theatrical and art techniques and means of expression: pantomime, playing with fire, poi, stilts walking, juggling, live music (percussion and vocals mainly), sand animation etc. We plan to make ten performances in Sofia and in other Bulgarian cities.
We are looking for volunteers with some experience in theatre, dance, music, performing or fine arts.
The EVS group includes 9 people:
- 7 performers: actors, dancers, singers, or instrumentalist
- 1 person, who will take part in the preparation of the visual part of the performance (stage/space, costume and light design)
- 1 person, who will deal with media (Making videos and pictures. Montage skills will be required too).
Volunteers will also help with making the costumes, requisite and the scenography needed for the performance as well as with organisation and promotion of the performance (making and spreading flyers and posters, taking part in live advertising parades and happenings etc.).
Important to know is that the project is not only about playing/acting. Through the performances we intend to grab the attention of the local communities, to popularise the European values amongst them and to promote the Idea of EVS and volunteering (2011 is European year of volunteering). The performances will be preceded by open activities (meetings, workshops) for the local youngsters and promoting the EVS amongst them.
During the project the Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about Bulgarian culture, history and current life. A short basic Bulgarian language course will be provided. At the end of the project, the Volunteers will have some free days for travelling and get to know Bulgaria.
