Act Green II (20.07.-04.08.2024 in Kryoneri)

From July 20th to August 4th, 2024, the village of Kryoneri in Greece played host to an inspiring Erasmus+ project that united 15 young people from across Europe. Participants from Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Estonia gathered in this scenic corner of the Peloponnese for two weeks of cultural exchange, community service, and exploration. The main focus of the project was to restore and promote the historical footpaths around Kryoneri, a village known for its stunning natural landscapes and rich heritage.

Each day from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, the participants worked together on the footpaths, clearing overgrown vegetation, placing markers, and ensuring the trails were safe and accessible for both locals and tourists. These footpaths, which wind through rugged hills and picturesque valleys, are a vital link to the region’s past, and the participants' efforts were a significant contribution to preserving this cultural legacy.

While the mornings were dedicated to hard work, the afternoons and weekends were free, allowing participants to explore the surrounding region and bond with one another. The group made the most of their free time, embarking on trips to nearby attractions. They visited the bustling city of Patras, the historical town of Korinth with its archaeological treasures, and enjoyed relaxing days at a nearby beach, soaking up the Mediterranean sun. Cultural immersion was a key part of the experience, and participants were introduced to the basics of the Greek language through daily lessons. These sessions not only helped them communicate better with locals but also deepened their appreciation for Greek culture and traditions.

One of the highlights of the project was a cultural evening organized by the participants. Each national group had the opportunity to present their country’s unique traditions, music, and cuisine. The event was a vibrant celebration of Europe’s cultural diversity, with each group sharing stories, traditional dances, and delicious homemade dishes from their home countries. It was a night of laughter, learning, and the forging of lasting friendships.

The Erasmus+ project in Kryoneri was more than just an opportunity to work on a community project; it was a transformative experience for all involved. Participants not only gained practical skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and project management but also grew personally through the cross-cultural exchanges and new friendships they formed. For the local community, the project had a lasting impact. The restored footpaths are now ready to welcome visitors, contributing to sustainable tourism in the area and helping to preserve the village’s cultural heritage for future generations. As the participants said their goodbyes and returned to their respective countries, they took with them not just memories of the Greek sun and hospitality, but also a deeper understanding of the importance of cultural preservation, international cooperation, and the shared values that unite Europe.
