ESC-Voluntary project in Athens

Jule Pehnt is since March 2024 a dedicated volunteer at the Jewish Museum of Greece in Athens, where she contributes to several areas of the museum's operations.

The Jewish Museum of Greece was founded in 1977, to collect, preserve, research and exhibit the material evidence of more than 2,300 years of Jewish life in Greece. At the heart of its mission, as an historical and ethnographic museum, lies the research and presentation of Jewish life and culture, of the history and tradition, of the timeless and multifaceted features of the Greek Jewish Communities.

The Collections and Archives of the JMG contain more than ten thousand artifacts pertaining to the domestic and religious life, as well as the history of the Greek Jews. The permanent home of the Museum houses its rich collections and visitor services in permanent exhibition areas with thematic modular exhibits, an art gallery, a periodic exhibition space, a research library, a space for educational programmes, a photo archive and laboratory and a conservation laboratory.

Since 2004 the JMG organises and conducts seminars for educators of the primary and secondary level, on “Teaching about the Holocaust in Greece”, in Athens and many other Greek cities.

Jule’s tasks include cataloging books in the library and organizing historical documents in the archive, ensuring that these resources are well-maintained and accessible. In addition to her archival work, Jule assists with seminars by taking notes, writing reports, and welcoming guests, playing a role in the smooth running of these educational events.

She is also involved in the museum's publicity efforts, preparing social media posts and writing press releases to promote the museum's activities and events to a wider audience. Occasionally, Jule is involved in guided tours, sharing her knowledge with visitors and enhancing their understanding of the museum's exhibits and the rich history they represent. Through her diverse responsibilities, Jule helps to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Jewish community in Greece.
